Find support instead of judgement

Kinky lifestyles are still quite taboo in the world of vanilla lifestyles and relationships espoused by mainstream society and this prejudice sometimes extends into the therapy room. Often folx who engage in kink and BDSM find themselves closeted in their day-to-day lives and have found themselves marginalized and occasionally vilified for their interests and lifestyles. For many, sex is already a tough topic for clients to broach in therapy, and sharing kinky interests and practices can be even more challenging. We know how painful it can be to open up in what is meant to be a safe space and instead find judgement, rejection, or pathologizing. In choosing to work with one of our therapists, you can expect more than just a judgement-free zone. We are passionate, enthusiastic and lifelong learners who can offer openness, curiosity, shared language, and an understanding of kink, fetish, power exchange, and BDSM lifestyles and dynamics.

Why kinksters might seek therapy with us

01

Understanding

We recognize that clients come to therapy for any number of reasons. If kink is part of your lifestyle we wish to embrace that part of you, but know that it also doesn’t define you. Regardless of how much you want to bring kink into therapy, you can be sure you will be authentically listened to and understood.

02

Relationship Dynamics

We work with individuals and relationships across the spectrum and embrace whatever aspects kink may play in these regards. Whether you are looking to impliment more kink into your relationship or sex life, renegotiate a current dynamic, or just talk to a therapist who understands how you do relationships, we are happy to offer our support. Kinky folks deal with the same issues as many relational clients who come to therapy such as rebuilding trust, communicating better, exploring boundaries, and working through attachment trauma.

03

Neurodivergence

Kink and BDSM are uniquely supportive for neurodivergent individuals with ADHD or autism. We are aware of the distinct ways these practices can empower individuals with different sensory needs, executive functioning issues, and nervous system regulation.

04

Trauma & Healing

Many individuals exploring kink use it as a way to work through trauma, whether working through historical experiences of disempowerment by reclaiming power in a safe, consensual, and renegotiated way, or through exploring sensory experiences as a tool for releasing tension. We recognize and explore these experiences as valid tools, though they are rarely studied or talked about.

05

Boundaries and consent

Issues of boundaries and consent are always important within relationships, but especially so within kink. Understanding your own boundaries and being able to communicate them is often a learned skill, and one that is absolutely crucial in negotiating BDSM scenes or power exchange relationship structures. With kink being so stigmatized as a practice and lifestyle, there is less understanding about what truly safe and consensual engagement and relationships look like. This can allow for coercive and unethical relationships and dynamics to hide in plain sight, leading to harm. By focusing on the individual experiences of our clients rather than pathologizing the lifestyle as a whole, we are uniquely able to work with clients to explore the ways they may have been harmed and to create space for healing.

Kink informed therapy can help with:

  • Identity exploration and integration

  • Working through vulnerability and shame

  • Building and negotiating power exchange dynamics

  • Conversational tools for boundaries, consent, and negotiation

  • Creatively incorporating kink into lifestyle and sexuality

  • Trauma processing

  • Healing from attachment wounds

  • Sensory needs and neurodivergence

  • Building authentic relationships and communities

Whether kink is a central part of your identity or simply an aspect of your relationships, therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to better understand yourself, strengthen your connections, and build relationships grounded in consent, authenticity, and mutual respect.
